Environmental Education at A Rocha has the collaboration of Paula Banza, a teacher who is on statutory mobility under the collaboration protocol between the Education and Environment ministries; this collaboration protocol involves organisations such as: the Portuguese Environment Agency, the Directorate-General for Education, the Directorate-General for School Establishments and the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests.

This partnership is essential for implementing the objectives of A Rocha’s Educational Project, whose guiding documents are: the National Environmental Education Strategy, namely the Environmental Education Framework for Sustainability; the Profile of Students Leaving Compulsory Education; the National Strategy for Citizenship Education and the Sustainable Development Goals, among others.

The Environmental Education Program is aimed at the general public, with a focus on educating the local community and foreign visitors in the Algarve. Individually or in partnership with others, we carry out activities with the following objectives:

Provide the participants with knowledge and skills that value their own knowledge and experience,

Bring together teachers and educators from the scientific community, helping them in approaches, methodologies and dissemination of scientific projects,

Awaken teachers to the possibilities of scientific applications with their students,

Raise awareness of the importance of field trips in their recreational, relational and educational components,

Contribute to changing attitudes and behaviours, leading to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly lifestyle.

A ROCHA Portugal started its Environmental Education Program in 1991.
